Professional Profile
Statement
My work is directed toward the application of tools & methods of computer science and simulation in solving problems of neighboring and distant fields of science. My aim is to:
- do this without lowering standards in either field and
- to provide leadership through excellence.
Natural processes in forest ecosystems and a multitude of human interests in forest management and land use are studied with methods of social, economic and natural sciences. They provide a good example and training ground for interdisciplinary work.
The study of Applied Informatics allows me to gain a command of methods and tools in mathematics and computer science at a professional level. Furthermore, it prepares for research in computer science.
The possibility to perform large-scale simulations on powerful computer systems has allowed us to increase our understanding of complex systems in the natural sciences, in economics, in computer science, and in the behavioural sciences. The Masters program in Complex Adaptive Systems combines methods borrowed from computer science (artificial neural networks, evolutionary algorithms+adaptive agents) with simulation techniques and stochastic models of complex systems, thereby deepening my knowledge in applications and methods.
