German Grading System

The German grading system is, in schools as well as in institutions of higher education, differentiated into six categories:
  1. Excellent performance.
  2. A performance which is a lot better than average.
  3. Average performance.
  4. Performance still meets the requirements.
  5. Minimum standards not met.
  6. Pretty poor performance.
In universities, every grade above 4.0 is flunked. The grades are differentiated on a .0, .3, and .7 scale, e.g. 1.0 is the best possible performance.

The German system measures how many mistakes you make. The Swiss system grades from one to six with six being the best possible grade, thus measuring how much is correct.
